Systems Designer
Slipgate Ironworks was founded in 2006 and is located in San Mateo, CA. The studio is led by a dedicated team of seasoned game industry professionals who are currently developing an MMO based on an original IP for a worldwide audience.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with your lead and fellow design team members to develop core game concepts, game systems, and game content.
- Ownership or shared-ownership of specific game content as determined by the lead (e.g., game systems, zones, missions, etc.).
- Aggressively prototype and iterate on core game mechanics and content.
- Balance and adjust gameplay experiences to ensure the product’s critical and commercial success.
- Implement game content using standard 3D software, engine tools, and basic scripting.
- Create and maintain game design documentation throughout the project cycle via an in-house wiki system.
Qualifications:
- Previous design experience on a AAA game title.
- Strong background in game design, with thorough knowledge and understanding of how the major components and elements all work together.
- Strong communication and technical writing skills, i.e., ability to convey ideas and concepts in a clear, detailed, and organized manner through verbal and written communication.
- Strong organizational skills, i.e., ability to multitask and keep track of minute details as well as the big picture.
- Demonstrable success in creating compelling gameplay, scenarios, activities, and encounters.
- Ability to both conceptualize and implement game ideas using various tools and technology.
- Strong computer skills (very comfortable with apps such as MS Word, Excel, Visio, Illustrator, Photoshop, different game editing tools etc.).
- Art and programming (e.g., scripting) experience or background a huge plus.
- An avid gamer with knowledge and understanding of various games and game types, as well as the drive and motivation to push the industry forward creatively.
